(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Popular Rabeeb and Jesh fish were not available at the Central Market for most days last month so they commanded high prices.
The average retail price of Rabeeb (small) at the market was QR47 a kg in March and it was available on 10 days of the month.
Figures released by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce for March show that Jesh fish was also available for limited number of days and its smaller version commanded QR24 per kg.
The cheapest fish was Fraish which was sold in retail for QR6 per kg. Faskar was another cheaper variety sold for QR8 per kg. The prices of Hamour averaged QR26 in the month while Qatari King Fish was sold for QR34 a kg.
Safi fish was sold for QR31 a kg, and Qatari Balul (small), QR32. Shery was available for QR10 a kg. These were the average prices for the month. The prices of fresh vegetables at the market were stable in March, said the ministry, citing figures. Tomatoes were sold for an average QR2.7 per kg.
Saudi green peas were the costliest at QR7.4 per kg on average. Australian carrots were sold for QR4.9 a kg, while Saudi carrots for QR2.5. The second most expensive vegetable was capsicum (QR5.8/kg). As for fruits, the bananas from the Philippines were available at the market in retail for QR5.9 per kg, whereas the American apple was sold for QR6.4.
