(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Award-winning five-piece traditional Scottish band Breabach, accompanied by Qatari musician Mohamed Alsaegh, will perform a one-off concert at Al Rayyan Theatre, Souq Waqif, on April 5, as the British Festival 2015 draws to a close.
The concert celebrates the collaboration of award-winning musicians from Britain and Qatar, showcasing the best of both cultures.
Following the successful Scotland Day 2013, brought to Qatar by the British Council as part of the Qatar UK Year of Culture, Scottish Minister for Europe and International Development Humza Yousaf and the Scottish government are delighted to support Breabach performing in Qatar, according to a statement.
"I am delighted that Breabach, one of our internationally renowned traditional folk bands, are taking to the stage in Qatar. They represent how Scottish music transcends across different cultures; I particularly welcome their collaboration with Mohamed Alsaegh. This cultural showpiece is a key step to developing and deepening our cultural relations with Qatar," said Yousaf.
Breabach, winners of Live Act of the Year and Folk Band of the Year in 2012 and 2013 at the MG Alba Scots Traditional Music Awards, and twice nominated Best Group at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, are known as the new face of traditional Scottish music.
Fresh from their recent Australia tour, Breabach's Calum MacCrimmon said: "We really can't wait to arrive in Doha to experience the buzz and energy of such a thriving city. We're especially looking forward to working with Qatari musician Mohamed Alsaegh and learning more about the local culture and music."
Alsaegh will represent Qatar with his multifaceted musical talent, playing a selection of traditional music on Qatari musical instruments. He is not only one of Qatar's top musicians, but also a well-known television actor, playwright, artist and researcher in folk art. He has received numerous festival awards in the Gulf states.
"It is my pleasure to be part of the British Festival," said Alsaegh. "Playing with a traditional Scottish band like Breabach is a privilege and a great opportunity to showcase the cultural dialogue between Qatar and Scotland through music."
