(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Secretary-General of Arab League Nabil Al-Araby has welcomed Palestine's joining of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
In a press statement issued Wednesday, Al-Araby said the move would help Palestinians bring Israel to justice for its crimes against them and their occupied land.
On his part, Arab League Assistant Secretary General for Palestine Affairs Ambassador Mohammad Subeih pointed out that it is a Palestinian right to get the ICC membership after 135 countries of the United Nations had recognized it as an observer state.
He told reporters that the Arab Foreign Minister Council had called on Palestine to complete procedures of joining all international institutions, including the ICC.
He emphasized the Israel's illegal settlement activities and last aggression on the Gaza Strip last July are key lawsuits that should be filed in the ICC.
He described the settlement activities as a war crime and a violation of the international law.
The Palestine's joining of ICC is a method to keep rights of Palestinians through a two-state solution based on the Arab Peace Initiative, he said, stressing the Arab League's full support for Palestine.
Earlier today, Palestine became a member of the ICC, saying it wanted "justice not vengeance" for Israeli crimes.
Joining the ICC is part of huge efforts by Palestinians to put international pressure on Israel.
