MP presents grilling request against Al Modej

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY March 23: MP Rawdan Al-Rawdan on Monday presented a grilling request against Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdulmohsen Al-Modej on his alleged inability to protect small investors and stop the wastage of public money. Parliament Speaker Marzouq Al- Ghanim has confirmed receiving the interpellation request which will be included in the agenda of the session slated for April 7 in accordance with the parliamentary bylaws.

This is the second interpellation motion submitted against the minister. In December last year MP Abdullah Al- Turaiji grilled the minister on administrative and financial irregularities in the ministry as well as the deteriorating situation in Kuwait Stock Exchange. Fortunately the minister survived the noconfidence vote after the MPs presented recommendations for him to rectify the mistakes. On another issue MP Ahmed Al- Qudaibi presented a proposal to privatize the sports clubs in order to develop the sports sector that has been deteriorating for several years. He suggested using the budgets allocated for these clubs as prizes for the winners of tournaments organized by various sports unions.

He also stressed the need to specify the minimum financial support for this activity with the possibility of increasing it. He believes that increasing the financial reward for winners of sports tournaments will have a positive impact on the athletes leading to a new level of competition between the sports clubs in a bid to revive the sector.

Meanwhile MP Hamdan Al-Azmi has called for a parliamentary debate on the citizenship cancellation issue. This came after the Court of Appeals announced that it has no jurisdiction over a petition against the decision to cancel the citizenship of Ahmed Al- Jabri Al-Shemiri. He then expressed disappointment on the division of the people in this country due to political conflicts indicating the ruling of the higher court raises more questions amongst citizens.

He wondered where a citizen can lodge his complaint in case he feels cheated or abused in his country if such a court has no jurisdiction over the cancellation of the citizenship of a person who has been deceived. Should he resort to the government which filed the case against him so the executive authority becomes the opponent and judge at the same time? Or should he go to international institutions to fight against the government of his country? He said it is now time for everyone to move towards the right path and to help victims of injustice especially since it has become clear to the public that citizenship cancellation is just one of the intimidation tools which the government uses whenever there are differences in opinions on positions or interests.
