Indian PM dedicates expansion of Rourkela Steel Plant to the country


(MENAFN- KNN India) Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on his visit to the steel city Rourkela dedicated 4.5 MT expansion of the Rourkela Steel Plant to the nation today.

The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has completed the RSP's capacity enhancement programme by investing Rs 12,000 crore. It raised the plant's hot metal capacity from 2 million tonne per annum (MTPA) to 4.5 MTPA. Set up in 1960, RSP is India's first integrated steel plant in public sector.

During his address the Prime Minister called upon states to work together with the Centre, with a long-term vision, to develop the country, and pave the way for the prosperity of future generations

The Prime Minister said the world was looking at India again with optimism. He invited investors from across the world to invest in India. He emphasized in particular, the need to develop the eastern part of India, including the states of Assam, West Bengal, Odisha, Bihar, and Eastern Uttar Pradesh.

On the occasion which also happens to be the Utkal Divas, the PM also presented the Trophy for Excellence in Performance of Integrated Steel Plants to TISCO, Bhilai Steel Plant, SAIL and JSW.

Governor of Odisha S C Jamir, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Union Ministers Jual Oram, Narendra Singh Tomar, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Union MoS Vishnu Deo Sai, were present on the occasion.
