S. Korea's exports down, trade surplus at new high in March


(MENAFN) A government report showed that South Korea's exports dropped for three straight months in March, but trade surplus hit a new monthly high, Xinhua reported.

Exports, which account for about half of the economy, declined 4.2 percent on-year to USD46.99 billion last months, according to the Ministry of Trade, industry and Energy.

Meanwhile, imports plunged 15.3 percent from a year earlier to USD38.6 billion in March, which helped trade surplus to reach a record high of USD8.39 billion in the month.

Excluding oil and petrochemical products, the March exports inched up 0.2 percent on an annual basis. In terms of volume, the March exports jumped 6.4 percent.
