Qatar's Al Sadd, Al Rayyan reach home to warm welcome


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Al Sadd, winners of the 35th GCC Club Handball Championship, and runners-up Al Rayyan were warmly received in Doha after the two teams contested the final in Abu Dhabi, UAE on Monday.

Al Sadd team confidently claimed the title following their deserving victory over Al Rayyan in the final.

For the third consecutive year, Al Sadd defended their title and won the match after recording a 31-27 convincing victory over Al Rayyan who managed in the second place.

In a festive sport scene, Sheikh Sultan bin Humaid Al Hossaini, the Chairman of Handball Organizing Committee at the GCC handed over the Trophy and gold medals to Al Sadd team, as Mohammed Hassan Al Suwaidi, the Secretary General of UAE Handball Federation delivered the silver medals to runners-up, Al Rayyan.

Ahmed Al Shaabi, the President of Qatar Handball Association (QHA) congratulated Al Sadd squad and appreciated Al Rayyan performance in the event.

The nine-day championship brought together eight clubs including Al Rayyan (Qatar), Mudher (KSA), Ahli Sedab (Oman) , Al Jazeerah (UAE), Al Sadd (Qatar), Ahli (Bahrain), Al Kuwait (Kuwait) and Ahli (UAE).
