38th session of ICECS kicks off in Jeddah under Kuwait's chairmanship

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The 38th session of the Islamic Commission for Economic, Cultural and Social Affairs (ICECS) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) commenced here on Tuesday at the OIC headquarters, under the chairmanship of Kuwait.
The session is chaired by Head of the International Economic Cooperation Department at Kuwait's Finance Ministry and Head of the Kuwaiti delegation to the meeting Ishaq Abdulkarim.

In his inaugural speech on Tuesday, OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani highlighted the achievements and efforts of the ICECS and its affiliates such as the International Islamic Fiqh Academy (IIFC).

He referred to the topics addressed during the 22nd session of IIFC hosted by Kuwait on March 22-25, mainly of Jihad based on jurisprudence, the rights and duties of non-Muslims and resumption of non-Palestinian Muslims' visits to the occupied Jerusalem.

He said that the IIFC's decision calling for visiting Jerusalem encourages Muslims to visit this sacred city in Palestine, through trips organized by Jordan and Palestine.

Visiting Jerusalem is not normalization with Israel, but normalization with Al-Aqsa Mosque and East Jerusalem, he pointed out.

As for the activities of Islamic Solidarity Fund for Development (ISFD), he said that the fund provided aid totaling USD 216 for supporting about 2,535 projects in many areas across the globe.

The OIC chief called for increasing donations to the fund to achieve the OIC's goals: food security, training and supporting microfinance.

He reviewed also the developments that the Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Center for Islamic Countries (SESRIC), the Islamic Center for Development of Trade (ICDT), the Islamic University for Technology (IUT) and the Research Center for Islamic History, Art and Culture (IRCICA) are seeing.
