(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Over 117 players competed in the first Oman Cables Group Golf Day on March 27.
In this highly anticipated 18-hole event there were two shotgun starts one in the morning and one at noon with teams of three or four players competing in a Texas Scramble format.
The founder of Oman Cables and director Hussain Salman al Lawati opened the second shotgun tournament describing the history of the two sponsoring sister companies Oman Cables and OAPIL. Both companies have collaborated to create this golfing event for their staff clients and future clients. They awarded prizes to the top three winning teams as well as individual prizes for the longest drive and several nearest the pin competitions.
The winning team consisting of Neil Dawson Chandra Das Jacky Franssen and John Tuck won the competition with a Nett score of 55 with each member of the team winning a room for two at the beautiful Jebel Akhdar Hotel.
In a close second Mike Rennardson Khalil A Wahaibi Pinya Saligul and Bob Newmyer scored an impressive Nett score of 55 and three quarters with each member of the team winning a room for two at Shangri-La's Barr al Jissah Resort & Spa.
In the final top spot Salim al Harthy Ken Taylor Rachel Connor and Mansoor al Touqi won a room for two each at Sifawy Boutique Hotel. Longest Drive was awarded to Fahad al Kitani with a strong drive winning him a game of golf at Al Ain Equestrian Shooting & Golf Club with hotel accommodation. The Men's Nearest the Pin winner was Christie Swart and he was awarded a weekend at Yas Viceroy hotel and a game of golf on Yas Links course.
For women there were two Nearest the Pin competitions with Jacky Franssen winning on hole number 2 and Rachel Connor winning on hole number 12.
