No 'new measure' regarding US visa applications


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY March 12: Consul General at the US Embassy in Kuwait Sarah Billman said no new measure has been taken regarding visa applications in light of the current security situation in the region reports Al-Qabas daily. In her statement to the daily Billman said that for the past 10 years the consulate has been more thorough in scrutinizing visa applications.

She affirmed that as long as the visa application is systematic and in line with rules and regulations it does not pose any threat to US security. She stressed the embassy has not encountered problems in receiving visa applications explaining the rejection of such application are based on several conditions. She explained the application is rejected if the applicant has security issues with the US violated travel or visa regulations in the past or failed to present all required documents. She pointed out that visa processing at the embassy is very easy and visas are quickly issued to majority of the applicants.

On the visa application procedures Billman disclosed the applicants must log on to the embassy's website which contains the visa application guidelines. She added visas are issued to 90 percent of the applicants within three to five working days.

She said the consulate dealt with 64000 visa applications in the past 12 months and 85 percent of these applications were approved for both Kuwaitis and expatriates indicating only six percent of applications filed by Kuwaitis were rejected. She also mentioned that the consulate deals with about 115 nationals every year while 25 percent of the applicants are expatriates. She said the most common types of visas requested are for work and tourism revealing that seven percent out of the 64000 visa applications were for academic purposes.
