UAE's FCA launches customs statistics service on smart phones

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) The Federal Customs Authority yesterday launched a customs statistics service on its website and a smart phone application to respond to customers' enquiries on statistics of the non-oil foreign trade between the UAE, other countries, and the free zone trade in the UAE.

"The new service is a response to the m-Government initiative launched by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum," said Khalid Ali Al Bustani, FCA Acting Director-General.

Al Bustani said that the new service aims to support the knowledge economy, build competitive economy, and fulfill the UAE's obligations by disclosing the statistics of non-oil foreign trade with international organisations. "The service is meant to support planning, policy development and conclusion of agreements at the ministries, federal and local institutions, and private companies. It also aims to enhance monitoring and evaluation of different areas, improve research and development at governmental and private sectors, support market studies and devise marketing plans," he added.

The new service is available on the authority's website and on smart phones through the UAE-FCA application available at Android, iOS and Blackberry stores.

"Some of the service beneficiaries include ministries, federal and local institutions, embassies, commercial representation offices and diplomatic corps, the private sector and researchers," said Al Bustani.

The statistics listed include the UAE's (direct) non-oil foreign trade, statistics of the UAE free zone trade, including export, import and re-export data in all the customs tariffs, as well as animal trade, food and beverage products, shoes, raw and tanned leathers, travel needs, gold, diamond, and electric equipment, among many others.
