Kuwait placed 3rd in Arab world with high 'healthcare' expenses


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY Dec 4: Kuwait occupied third place in Arab world and 33rd globally among some 166 countries with high expenditures in healthcare services according to a recent report by the Economic Intelligence Unit of Economist Magazine reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. Report indicated that Kuwait was classified among the second group of 28 countries from six groups named in terms of healthcare capabilities and with each group containing an average of 27 countries.

The countries were rated by life expectancy health conditions and death rate. It added the individual share of healthcare in Kuwait is $1144 as the country gained 85 out of 100 points in the health output index. Qatar is the first country in the Arab world and 30th globally with the share of healthcare expenses per individual valued at $2275. Lebanon came 2nd among Arabs and 32nd in the world while Bahrain occupied 4th place among Arabs and 37th worldwide and UAE took the 5th position in Arab World and came 44th globally. Saudi Arabia occupied the 6th position among Arabs and 46th in the world followed by Tunisia in 7th place among Arabs and 50th globally while Oman came 8th in the Arab world and 55 in the world.

Meanwhile assistant Undersecretary for Support Medical Services at Ministry of Health Dr Jamal Al-Harbi said the ministry has performed 250 cochlea transplant surgeries in the past 13 years reports Al- Seyassah daily. Dr Al-Harbi disclosed this at the sidelines of the Sixth International Conference and Workshop on Ear Surgery organized by the management of Adan Hospital from Dec 1-3 at Hilton Hotel Mangaf. He explained that Kuwaiti doctors since 2001 started the surgery in cooperation with German experts until they could depend on the local team completely.

He added that Zain Hospital was the only hospital conducting complicated ear operations until it extended the wings to Farwaniya and Adan hospitals respectively. He stated Kuwait now boasts of 13 ear and nose clinics located at specialized centers across the country. He also said the organizers held the current edition of the conference to follow up the previous event organized by the Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Department at Adan Hospital. He indicated the hospital collaborates with the Ministry of Health and Ahmadi Health Region.

He extended appreciation to renowned professors from various reputable institutions globally who graced the occasion. In the meantime Head of the Health Office in Germany Dr Suleiman Al- Harbash disclosed that representatives will be designated to follow up the appointment procedures of patients on overseas treatment outside the capital Frankfurt and other places far from city reports Al-Seyassah daily.

He stressed the office make a written record of cases and extends the period of treatment for patients and also ensures that banks release payment on schedule adding the office opens its doors to all citizens during overseas treatment trips to ease procedures for them.
