Seven expats get jail for murder, robbery

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A Doha criminal court has sentenced seven Asian expatriate men to various jail sentences and subsequent deportation for murder and robbery, local Arabic daily Al-Watan reported on Monday.

One was sentenced to 15 years in jail for murder and ordered to pay QR200,000 to the legal heirs of the victim. The others were sentenced to five years jail each for robbery.

The case was that the convicts broke into a company's headquarters, stole a money safe and took it to their accommodation. But they could find only QR1,000 in the safe, which prompted them to attempt another burglary at the same premises.

During the break-in, one of the convicts spotted a person sitting in a parked vehicle and fearing he might report them to the police, approached him and started a fight.

In the melee one of the convicts stabbed the individual, who was left to die. The fingerprints of the criminals led the police to eventually identify and arrest them, the daily added.
