Dubai Police help deserted women reunite with their husbands

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Dubai Police have, in separate cases, assisted two women who were abandoned by their husbands in reuniting with them.

Fatima Al Kindi, Head of the Social Support Section at the General Department of Human Rights, said that in the first case, a woman approached them seeking assistance after her husband, a Gulf national, abandoned her.

The woman said they came to Dubai a few years back. After she gave birth to two children, her husband left Dubai for his home country and she did not have any contact with him for some days.

She asked him to take her and their children with him to his country, but he refused, citing a law in his country which requires prior approval before marrying foreigners.

He did not contact her after that and did not give any monetary support for her or their children. Al Kindi said the woman is employed, but her salary is not enough to pay their rent or meet the children's expenses.

The police contacted her husband in his home country and directed him to send money for his wife and children. He was also directed to finish the formalities to legalise their marriage in his country.

In the second case, the department was notified about a pregnant woman and her child at the Dubai Airports. The woman told the police that her husband abandoned her in a European country without any money after a minor squabble between them. He returned to the UAE and refused to respond to her calls or messages.

The police contacted her husband, and after a lengthy discussion, he agreed to send her back to her home country and arrange for her visa so that she could come back to the UAE.
