Fog causes 15-vehicle pile-up on Abu Dhabi-Dubai road

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A thick blanket of fog that enveloped the country on Monday morning caused a 15-vehicle pile-up on the Abu Dhabi-Dubai road in the direction of Al Samha. An Emirati suffered minor injuries and was treated on the scene.

Colonel Mohammed Ahmed Saif Al Mazroui, Head of the Peripheral Regions Traffic Department of the Abu Dhabi Police, said the Operations Room dispatched traffic patrols as soon as it received an alert. The patrols implemented the emergency plan for foggy conditions by controlling the flow of traffic to the location, and removed the damaged vehicles from the road.

As part of a contingency plan during fog, the directorate has already prevented trucks and heavy vehicles from entering roads in Abu Dhabi during peak hours until visibility improves.

The Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters (GHQ) urged motorists to abide by the directives of the traffic patrol officers in the event of fog to ensure their safety and avoid accidents.

He called upon motorists to watch for the weather forecast in the next few days as there is a chance of fog and low visibility. He emphasised the importance of maintaining a sufficient space between vehicles, avoiding overtaking, reducing speed gradually, driving at a speed that is appropriate for the current circumstances and using dim lights.

He also called upon companies to cancel transportation of staff if visibility is too low.
