Kahramaa builds new substations

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A number of new electricity substations have been built across Qatar to meet the requirements of the country's rising population.
The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has said the new substations are part of its strategic plan to upgrade networks.

The corporation has executed its expansion works under the stewardship of Kahramaa President and Senior engineer Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari.

The new 11kv/66 kv substations have been built in Doha, Khuraitiyat South, Central Market area, Doha Industrial Area-F and Mesaimeer North.
Abu Sidra, and Industrial area super substations ( 220/132/66/11 kv ) have been upgraded and commissioned.

Kahramaa has also increased the capacities of several substations including Wajba Super 400 kv, Lusail LDS2 400 kv, Qatar University North 132 /11 kv, and Gharyan Genyhat Super 220 / 132 /11 kv.

The 132 / 66 / 11 kv substations in Gharaffa will be completed soon.
The corporation said the new strategic substations in such areas as Musheireb Downtown Doha, and Sheraton parking substation will be commissioned before the advent of summer.

The substation at Sheraton parking is constructed underground as per the latest safety specifications. It copes up with the world standards and is equipped with the latest monitoring and control systems.
New substations which have been commissioned this year included the 66/11 kv at Wajba, and Super station in Abu Hamour.

Another important development is the dismantling of all overhead lines of 132 kv between Doha South and Sailiya. The corporation will also dismantle all overhead lines of 132 and 220 kv from Abu Fontas generation station to Al Wakrah, Mesaied, and Doha South across Al Wakrah street.

The project is being executed in line with the requirements of such infrastructural building agencies such as Ashghal, Qatar Rail, and Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning. It goes in line with FIFA 2022 projects as well, said the Kahramaa in a statement.
