Cabinet lauds outcome of Arab summit


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) In its customary weekly meeting, the cabinet met on Monday where it reviewed, among other things, results of the just concluded Arab summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, noting the positive nature of these results.

In that regard, the cabinet applauded the speech of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah which delivered at the summit, in which he expressed Kuwait's support of Saudi Arabia-led campaign in Yemen, said a statement following the cabinet meeting, that was chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.

The statement, read out by by Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, added that His Highness the Amir referred in his speech to the necessity to implement the Gulf Initiative regarding Yemen and to promote a national dialogue in that country. He also called on the international community to lend a helping hand to Yemen.

His Highness, furthermore, spoke in his speech about the scourge of terrorism and the need to confront it, and referred to the humanitarian crisis in Syria and noted Kuwait's hosting of a third donors conference for the benefit of Syrian refugees.

Moreover His Highness emphasized in his speech the imperative that the Palestinian cause be settled through a two-state solution.

The cabinet thanked the efforts of His Highness the Amir and other Arab leaders at the summit for a job well done, producing a fruitful summit with tangible results.

The cabinet also listened to statements by First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah regarding the GCC statement issued last Thursday on the escalating events in Yemen. The GCC statement indicated the attempt by the Houthi militias to topple the legitimate government of President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi and the need for a political solution to the conflict in Yemen.

The cabinet also listened to observations by the State Minister for Housing Affairs Yasser Abul regarding the distribution of housing units to some Kuwaiti citizens.

Further the cabinet agreed to move the department of tourism from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to the Ministry of Information.

At the outset of its meeting today the cabinet reviewed letters received by His Highness the Amir from a number of world dignitaries, among them the Director General of FAO, the president of France, the president of Brazil, and prime minister of Georgia, all regarding boosting bilateral ties.
