Prime minister meets with Arab fund chief

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Prime Minister, Abdullah Ensour, on Monday, met with Board Chairman of the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, Abdullatif al-Hamad and discussed with him ties between the Jordanian government and the fund. The prime minister hailed the fund as a key partner in supporting Jordan development efforts. Ensour highlighted burdens being borne by the Kingdom as a result of hosting a massive number of Syrian refugees on its territory. He said the international assistance offered Jordan covers a small proportion of the refugees' hosting cost and needs.

Al-Hamad said the fund is keen to increase cooperation and coordination with Jordan to support development efforts and priority economic projects. "We will do our utmost to support and stand by Jordan," he said.

He noted the fund's board will decide next week on providing Jordan with $100 million to finance small and medium projects.

Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Imad Fakhoury, who attended the meeting, said the government has reached an agreement with the fund to lend Jordan $54 million to support the implementation of 7th phase of Kherbat al-Samra water treatment plant.
