Coalition aircraft pound Houthis' air defense, command ctrs

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) For the third straight day, the Saudi-led coalition aircraft bombed Houthi militias military target across Yemen, Brig.-Gen. Ahmad Asiri, adviser to the Saudi Minister of Defense, said in his daily briefing in Riyadh.

Brig.-Gen. Asiri said that the Saturday raids targeted air defense systems, aircraft and command and communications centers as well as convoys of Houthis military vehicles.

"The airstrikes were intensive and precise," he said, noting that a vehicle of a Houthi leader was targeted and directly hit in one of the raids.

"The airstrikes also focused on cutting Houthis' supply routes and preventing them from moving militants or arms towards the southern provinces or the border with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia," Brig.-Gen. Asiri said, adding that a weaponry and ammunitions depot was also destroyed by a coalition airstrike.
He accused Houthi militants of sheltering inside and placing air defense systems on rooftops of residential buildings.

"The coalition jetfighters are reluctant to target these buildings to avoid harming civilians," he asserted.

Meanwhile, Asiri said the Saudi artillery backed by Apache helicopters continued pounding Houthi militia vehicles moving towards the southern Saudi areas of Jezan and Najran.

In a successful operation, the Saudi navy has evacuated 86 foreign diplomats and journalists from Aden, he unveiled, adding that they evacuees arrived in the Saudi city of Jeddah Saturday.

He underlined that the campaign will forge ahead as planned to achieve its goals of backing the Yemeni army and constitutional legitimacy. He also denied any intention to deploy ground forces in Yemen at the current stage.
He stressed that despite the difficulty of dealing with the unorganized movements of Houthi militias, the operation has so far weakened the military capabilities of Houthis.

He affirmed that there are no causalities among coalition forces so far.
"The door is open for any country seeking to join the coalition, but what have been achieved so far shows that coalition is materializing its goals," Brig.-Gen. Asiri concluded.

On March 26th morning, a Saudi-led coalition of more than 10 countries began military operations to protect the people of Yemen and their legitimate government from the advancing Houthi militas.

The military intervention, dubbed "Decisive Storm," was carried out at the request of the Yemeni government. Yemen has been gripped by increased turmoil since the Houthi rebels overran the capital, Sanaa, in September
