Serving up fun on a platter at Sharjah Food Festival


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The 9th annual Sharjah Food Festival began on March 27 at four different locations across the emirate. So far, it's been fun, lessons in history, live cooking demonstrations from celebrity chefs, and fun-filled activities for the entire family. Khaleej Times caught up with Ahmed Obaid Al Qaseer, Chief Operating Officer of Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq), for a quick chat about what people can look forward to from the festival.



What is the objective of organising the Sharjah Food Festival?

The festival would contribute to revitalisation of the tourism movement in Sharjah. This year, Sharjah is celebrating its title of being the 'Capital of Arab Tourism'. Also, the food festival will not be limited to cooking-related events, but will also feature entertaining and art activities at the tourism and leisure destinations that are run by Shurooq.

Which are the venues hosting the festival?

The festival is taking place in Al Qasba, Al Majaz Waterfront, Al Montazah and Heart of Sharjah.



Can children participate in the festival?

There are many activities that have been designed for children in the four destinations, the most prominent of which is Pizzaro Academy for Young Chefs, Spongebob and Dora Cartoons show in Al Qasba, and many other fun-filled activities and entertaining shows in the other destinations.



What are the festival's major events?

During the festival, Al Qasba's visitors will be treated to four main activities including cooking competitions ... The festival will also feature characters from the highly popular Nickelodeon cartoons, ... barbecue competitions, entertainment shows and lectures on dieting and cooking. Al Qasba will also host 20 stands displaying different cuisines from around the world.

What are the festival's prominent activities at Al Majaz Waterfront?

Among the events scheduled at Al Majaz Waterfront is a daily 90-minute live cooking show by local, regional and international chefs.
