KD 200K fine jail for bid to export hazardous waste


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY March 23: Assistant Undersecretary for General Security at the Interior Ministry Major-General Abdulfattah Al-Ali has announced the establishment of a new department the 'Environment Security Department' reports Al-Rai daily. Al-Ali said the new department will include 5 sections and the members of this department will wear civilian clothes. Al-Ali said Article 131 of the law states the establishment of the Environment Police with a mandate to enforce environment-related laws in all sectors. He noted those who are arrested attempting to export hazardous waste shall be fined KD 200000 and put behind bars for three years. Major-General Ali stressed on the fact that the police will be tasked with issuing citations against those who cause harm to the environment by pumping sewage water on land or sea or extracting pebbles. The penalty he said shall be KD 10000.

Embassy files complaint: A few days after the Public Prosecution issued a search and arrest warrant against Ahmad Al-Sarraf columnist of the Al- Qabas newspaper for writing an article about the Iranian revolution informed sources said the Iranian embassy in Kuwait filed a complaint with the Prosecution accusing 11 journalists of writings and articles published in local newspapers concerning with the Republic of Iran reports Al-Jarida daily. The sources said the complaints stressed on the violations committed against the Press and Publications Law. The sources said some of the writers reside in Kuwait and others abroad in Iraq and London while others are Iranian citizens but they are in foreign countries.

2 workers seriously injured: Two workers an Egyptian and a Bangladeshi - have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Jahra Hospital with life-threatening injuries reports Al-Anba daily. The workers were injured after they fell from a crane (10-metres high) while working at a building under construction in Amghara.

Laser beam directed at flight: Police rushed to Ishbiliya after a captain of a Gulf Air flight coming from Bahrain complained to the control tower about someone directing a laser beam at the aircraft while landing reports Al-Shahed daily.
