Sheikh Ahmad offers apology


(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY March 26: Sheikh Ahmad Fahad Al- Ahmad Al-Sabah offered his apology in a televised speech on Thursday to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al- Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for his (i.e. Sheikh Ahmad) actions in the recent past.

Addressing His Highness the Amir in his speech Sheikh Ahmad said:

'It is my honor to submit to Your Highness and to His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al- Jaber Al-Sabah and to the esteemed Al-Sabah family and to the Kuwaiti Judiciary and to His Highness Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al- Sabah and his esteemed family and to former Speaker of the National Assembly Jassem Mohammad Al-Kharafi and his esteemed family my profound apology and deep sorrow for what I have caused in the recent past of slander or defamation or smear whether intentional or not to others. The slander defamation and smear came about as a consequence of information and documentation I received regarding the nation's interests which I thought at the time were correct and credible. Now that it has been determined by the Judiciary the falsehood of the information and documentation I hereby adhere to the decision by the Judiciary. As I seek forgiveness from Your Highness I categorically assure Your Highness that what transpired in the recent past has been a lesson for me to learn from and pledge that I will put this entire affair behind me and will not bring it up ever again.'

Sheikh Ahmad concluded his televised speech by wishing the best for the nation under the leadership of His Highness the Amir and His Highness the Crown Prince.

Meanwhile in the first direct response the former Speaker of the National Assembly Jassem Al-Kharafi said 'Thank God' when asked about the case which has been adjourned. In reply to another question he said 'We will follow this issue at home and abroad'. When the daily asked Al-Kharafi for more details and about what next step will be taken he said anyone who is interested should contact my son Attorney Louay Al-Kharafi who is pursuing this case.

The former Speaker of the National Assembly was speaking on the sidelines of the celebration held by the Tunisian Ambassador to Kuwait at the Salwa Sabah Hall on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of the independence of his country.

Al-Kharafi congratulated Tunisia on this occasion and said 'we are confident that the wisdom of the leadership in Tunisia will prevail and as a result of this wisdom I'm sure that the potential in Tunisia will make it much easier for coherence and reforms.'
