'No involvement' in hitandrun case
(MENAFN- Arab News) MUMBAI: Bollywood star Salman Khan gave his version of a 2002 hit-and-run case in a court on Friday saying it was not him but his driver driving the car that ran over people sleeping on a pavement.
One person was killed and four people were injured in the accident in Mumbai NDTV reported.
The actor 49 took off his earrings before walking up to the witness box in a Mumbai sessions court.
He denied his bodyguard Ravindra Patil's statement that despite warnings he drove his Toyota Land Cruiser at a high speed in a drunk state in the early hours of Sept. 28 2002 and lost control.
'My left door was jammed so I could not open it' Khan said when the court asked him to respond to multiple witnesses saying he exited from the driver's side.
He admitted to sitting on the driver's seat only briefly when one driver got out and another Ashok took over.
Khan did not deny that he was at a bar with brother Sohail before the accident but said he only drank water and never ordered any cocktails as indicated by bills. The bills made out for drinks and food he said were not his.
Khan further said that the entire evidence placed in the court against him was 'false'.
'My blood was taken at two places. Blood samples were not intact.
'The outcome is false. My pupils were dilated because I was awake all night' he said.
