KDIPA chief concludes successful visit to Japan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Director-General of the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah left here Friday after a successful official visit at the invitation of the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

While in Japan, Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Al-Sabeeh held a series of talks with officials and business leaders, including State Minister for Foreign Affairs Yasuhide Nakayama and State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Issei Kitagawa, as well as Yasushi Kimura, Vice Chairman of the highly influential Japan Business Federation.

The meetings explored ways for closer cooperation between the two countries, he told KUNA at the end of his week-long visit.

KDIPA chief said his trip was a follow up of the visit by Kuwaiti Minister of State for Development and Planning Affairs and Minister of Social Affairs and Labour Hind Al-Sabeeh to Tokyo last October. "The reason I am here is to give the Japanese officials and private sector the latest development since her visit, and to ensure them that the Kuwaiti government and parliament are working very hard to make our country's business environment much easier and friendlier. "Kuwait welcomes foreign investors and the Japanese investors in particular," Sheikh Dr. Meshaal said.

At a business seminar on Thursday, in which leading Japanese trading and engineering firms, banks, and government officials gathered, Sheikh Dr. Meshaal underlined Kuwait's huge potential to Japanese investors and provided an overview on KDIPA's services to support them. The seminar focused on the improvement in Kuwait's business environment and investment opportunities under the nation's ambitious national development plan for 2015-2020, which are conducive to Kuwait's economic diversification efforts.

"The development plan aims at transforming Kuwait into a world class commercial and financial hub, with the private sector assuming a leading role in economic activities," KDIPA chief told the audience.

His presentation also covered Kuwait's economic outlook, new and revamped laws and measures that are designed to ramp up Kuwait's appeal to foreign investors, including Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Law introduced in 2013. He stressed that the goals of KDIPA are to attract investments that have know-how, technology and innovation, and help create job opportunities and training for Kuwaitis, and add value to the domestic economy.

In a reflection of Kuwait's keen interest in sharing Japan's technology and innovation, Sheikh Dr. Meshaal, Kuwaiti Ambassador to Japan Abdulrahman Al-Otaibi and KDIPA officials Bader Al-Jadi and Mohammed Al-Sabbagh also made inspection tours to redeveloped areas and Tokyo Metro network. As host of the 2020 Olympics, Tokyo is pushing forward large-scale redevelopment projects.
