(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait's ambassador to the EU, Belgium and Luxembourg Dharar Abdul Razzak Razzooqi has stressed that Kuwait has very close relations with the 28-member European bloc.
"We are ready to cooperate in all fields. We have strategic relations between the EU and the Gulf states, in particular with Kuwait. We have historic relations with the EU and we have strong economic relations with nearly all countries of the EU," he told a meeting of the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with the Arab Peninsula, late on Thursday.
"We have huge economic interest in the region. We consider the EU as an extension of our region, the Middle East. We hope you will help us to stabilise the situation in the region and promote peace and security," said Kuwait's top-most diplomat in Brussels.
The meeting also exchanged views on the Schengen visa issue with Diederik Paalman, acting head of unit in charge of visa policy in the European Commission.
Kuwait is ready to discuss this matter with the EU and to clarify "all your questions," said Razzooqi.
He said Kuwaiti businessmen are visiting Europe regularly and hence for strengthening economic cooperation it would be better if our people can come and go easily to Europe.
"We have no problems with human rights," he said noting that the Delegation had visited Kuwait and saw how democracy is functioning in the country. On the crisis in Yemen, he noted the UN Security Council has issued several resolutions to resolve the issue and that the GCC has also presented an initiative to solve the problem and restore peace and security in the country.
Razzooqi said the Saudi-led "Operation Decisive Storm" came following the appeal of Yemen's legitimate President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi for Gulf and Arab countries to intervene militarily and was aimed to restore the legitimacy of the internationally-recognized government.
