Kuwaiti charities tout His Highness Amir's support


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A number of officials representing several charitable organizations on Wednesday praised highly His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for his ample support of their humanitarian work.

In an audience with His Highness the Amir, one of the officials, Chairman of the International Islamic Charitable Organization (IICO) Dr. Abdullah Al-Matouq noted that Kuwait's charitable contributions have spanned all corners of the world and their beneficiaries are Islamic, Arab, and other societies.

Emphasizing Kuwait's humanitarian role, Al-Matouq said that Kuwait's hosting of three donors conferences for Syrian refugees is further evidence of its ambitious commitment to be seen as a center for international humanitarian work.

On charitable assistance to the Syrian refugees, another official, Ahmad Al-Jasser, from the Al-Najat Charitable Society, said he favored that charities to the Syrians would not be confined to relief aid only but to extend to other areas conducive to growth and development of their communities under the harsh conditions they are facing.

On his part, Abdullatif Y. Al-Hamad , Chairman and Director General at the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development emphasized the importance of cooperation between the public sector and civic society organizations such as the charitable ones in extending the reach of Kuwaiti charitable work across nations' boundaries.

On the subject of helping the children of Syrian refugees, Chairman of the Islamic Heritage Revival Society, Tariq Al -Eissa, one of the officials meeting with His Highness the Amir, said there are more than five and a half million children of Syrian refugees with no access to a proper education. He said his organization is thinking of a plan in which both the public and private sectors consecrate their efforts at bringing education to these unfortunate children, many growing as illiterate. The cost would be about USD 500 per child annually.

Besides relief aid, Minister of Justice Yaqoub Al-Sanea said the refugees need prefab homes and factories to teach them a trade from which to eke out a living.

Kuwait Red Crescent Society board chairman Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer touted his organization's campaign to provide the Syrian refugees with 14 loaves of bread every day per family. Since the start of the campaign and up until now, more than 43 million loaves of bread have been distributed, he said.

This meeting between the officials of charities and His Highness the Amir comes ahead of the convening of the third Kuwait Donors conference for the benefit of Syrian refugees due to be held by the end of this month.
