Chemical weapons watchdog investigating reports of toxic attack in Syria

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Director-General of the Organisation for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons, Ambassador Ahmet Uzumcu, Wednesday announced that he has been monitoring the recent reports suggesting that toxic chemicals may have been used as weapons in the Idlib province of Syria.

"This matter is of serious concern," he said in a statement at the OPCW HQ in The Hague. Uzumcu noted his decision to continue with the fact-finding mission, which is mandated to look into all serious allegations of use of toxic chemicals for hostile purposes in Syria.

The continuation of the mission's work has been endorsed by the OPCW Executive Council and Security Council resolution 2209 (2015), he added.
