German study finds many citizens support recognition of Palestinian state


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A German study revealed Wednesday that a broad majority of German citizens are in favor of government's recognition of a Palestinian state.

According to German Forsa Institute for Social Research and Statistical Analysis and based on a request by weekly German magazine (Stern), the study found 71 percent of those surveyed supported German government's recognition of a Palestinian state with 15 percent rejecting it, and 14 percent abstained.

As far as partisan affiliations, the study showed citizens who support or reject the Palestinian call are 93 percent from the German Left Party whom are in favor of the Palestinian call, while 81 percent of the Green Party in favor to the Palestinian call for recognition.

As for the two social German parties the study showed that 78 percent of the Social Democratic Party members support it, and 69 percent of the Christian Democratic Union is in favor of the recognition of a Palestinian state.

As of today, 135 countries recognizes Palestine as a state, while parliaments of France, Britain, Spain, Ireland and Portugal already voted in favor of recognizing a Palestinian state and demanded that their governments to do so.
