Ceiling of an under construction mosque caves in

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY March 18: A construction worker died and four others suffered severe injuries and additional fractures in various parts of their bodies at Sabah Al-Ahmad as the ceiling of an under construction mosque collapsed while they were filling the minaret with concrete.

The incident occurred less than a week after a similar occurrence killed two Arab construction workers at a construction site in Salmiya area. Rescue officers from Wafra Technical Rescue and Support stations moved in to the scene immediately after a distress call was placed to the Operations Room at around 9:13 am.

The officers rescued four persons who were badly injured in the process but efforts to rescue the fifth person was futile since he died immediately after removing the debris he was covered in. Minister of Housing Affairs Yasir Abul accompanied by the Director General of Public Authority for Housing Affairs and other senior officials of the authority went to inspect the site.

He said the authority has set up a fact-finding committee to investigate the mystery surrounding the ugly incident. He assured the ministry will take all necessary legal procedures to bring those who caused the accident to book. In reaction to the unpleasant incident Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Fawaz Al-Khalid Al-Sabah delegated the Director of Citizen Service Department in the governorate Bader Shu''ail to follow up the condition of victims who are undergoing medical treatment. He said Shu''ail should liaise with technical and administrative officials of Adan Hospital over the incident. The official has since visited the victims to ensure they are given adequate treatment.
