Qatar- Emir arrives in India


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani yesterday evening arrived in India on a two-day state visit.

On arrival at Palam Air Force Base Airport, the Emir was welcomed by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh, Qatari Ambassador to India Ahmed Ibrahim Al Abdullah, Indian Ambassador to Qatar Sanjeev Arora and senior Indian officials and Arab ambassadors accredited to the country. The Emir is accompanied by a high-level delegation.

The Emir wished President Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government and people further progress and prosperity.

He highlighted historic friendship and cooperation between Qatar and India and affirmed commitment to continue supporting bilateral relations in various fields.

He said he looks forward to meeting the President and the Prime Minister to exchange views on issues of common interest.

He expressed confidence that his visit will contribute to the development of cooperation between both countries for the welfare and the best interest of the two peoples. India is the last leg of the Emir's tour of South Asia which covered Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The Emir and his delegation arrived in New Delhi from Colombo following a day's visit. In Colombo, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mangala Pinsiri Samaraweera, Minister of Highways, Higher Education and Investment Promotion Kabir Hashim, Minister of Ports and Shipping Arjuna Ranatunga, Qatari Ambassador to Sri Lanka Rashid Shafie Almerri and Sri Lankan Ambassador to Qatar Jayantha Palipane welcomed the Emir and his delegation at Bandaranaike International Airport.

The Emir expressed congratulations to President Maithripala Sirisena on his election and wished Sri Lanka further prosperity and development.

He stressed Qatar's keenness to enhance cooperation in all fields to serve the interest of the people of both countries.

During talks, Sirisena expressed happiness over the Emir's visit and praised strong relations.

The Emir also expressed delight over the visit and stressed that both sides look for more cooperation in the economic and investment fields and thanked Sirisena for the reception.

Talks focused on enhancing cooperation in all fields as well as regional and international issues.

The Emir's delegation and several Sri Lankan ministers were present. The Emir was bid farewell at the airport by Hashim, Almerri and Palipane.

The Emir sent a message to the president, expressing thanks for the good reception and said his visit contributed to exchanging views on issues of joint interest and enhancing cooperation in various fields. He also wished the people of Sri Lanka further prosperity.

Earlier in the morning, the Emir visited the Shakarpariyan Garden in Islamabad and planted a pine tree.

At the conclusion of his visit to Pakistan, the Emir and his delegation were seen off at Noor Khan Air Base by Prime Minister Mohammad Nawaz Sharif, Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Qatari Ambassador to Pakistan Saqr Mubarak Al Mansouri, Pakistani Ambassador to Qatar Shahzad Ahmed and other officials.

The Emir sent cables to President Memnon Hussein and Sharif, expressing thanks and appreciation for the hospitality and good reception accorded to him and his delegation. He said his visit contributed to promoting and developing brotherhood and cooperation between both countries in various fields for the welfare and interest of the two peoples. The Emir wished the president and the prime minister good health and happiness and the people of Pakistan further progress and prosperity.
