Dubai hosts 3rd GCC Conference for Laboratories Proficiency


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Under the patronage of Minister of Environment and Water, and Chairman of Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology "ESMA", Dr. Rashid Ahmad bin Fahad, the 3rd GCC Conference for Laboratories Proficiency" will kick off on Tuesday to discuss among other topics accreditation supporting the delivery of health services and social welfare and the role of proficiency tests in the medical field as well as analyse the risks and their impacts in the medical field.

The Conference, organised by ESMA in cooperation with GCC Standardisation Organisation, the two-day event will draw participation of more than 250 officials, experts and specialists in competent entities and establishments, at both the government and private sectors in the Member States.

Abdulla Al Muaini, Acting Director General of ESMA, stated that, "This Conference comes in line with the continuous cooperation and coordination efforts of the Authority with GCC Standardisation Organisation to improve the infrastructure and quality of the GCC metrology."

He also added that hosting this conference reflects the keenness of the Government of UAE to implement a clear strategy for improving and developing the efficiency of the laboratories in accordance to the best practices and international standards.

The conference will deliberate on some work papers which concentrate on measurement of competency tests of laboratories, and how best to upgrade quality infrastructure, support accreditation to improve health services, social care and the role of competency tests in the medical field.

Al Muaini said that the previous editions of the Conference accomplished great success which contributed to strengthening transfer of knowledge among the GCC states in the area of laboratory proficiency.

The Third GCC Conference for Laboratory Proficiency aims at provide the opportunity for communication and dialogue amongst the operating laboratories in the GCC member states, introducing latest developments in laboratory infrastructure, accreditation and legislations in the GCC member states and exploring the requirements and priorities of laboratories in terms of proficiency testing programs. It also seeks to support the international recognition of laboratory efficiency activities in the GCC member states and review some of the best practices of laboratories in the GCC member states.
