Qatar- Ministry forces firm to repeat raffle draw

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Ministry of Economy and Commerce has forced a commercial outlet to repeat a raffle draw after it awarded the prize - a motorcycle - to one of its employees, which was against the rules set by the ministry.

The ministry cancelled the results of the first draw and forced the outlet to offer the prize again to the public in a repeat draw, said a statement yesterday.

The ministry said it had acted against the outlet as it violated Article 7 of the ministerial decision no 19 of 2014 concerning lucky draws.

As per the rule, people associated with the outlet that conduct the draw are not allowed to participate. They include the owners and partners, managers of the bodies conducting the draw, employees of the outlet and their close relatives, said the ministry.

Meanwhile, the ministry closed down an outlet in Industrial Are for two weeks for selling electric heaters that do not meet Qatari standards and specifications.

During raids conducted by ministry inspectors, 71 heaters were seized. The violation was confirmed after samples were sent to the standards and specifications authority at the Ministry of Environment.

The closure comes as part of a nationwide clampdown on low quality electrical products due to the danger they pose to people's lives and their property.

In another related incident, the ministry raided a women beauty salon that was found using some expired beauty products. The ministry said it had detected six violations at the facility but didn't explain what action was taken.
