France concerned by deterioration in Yemeni, supports Hadi

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) France expressed concern on Monday with the sharp deterioration of the crisis in Yemen and vowed continue support to embattled Yemeni President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

As Houthi rebels continue to expand their control towards southern Yemen where Hadi is established in Aden, the UN Security Council has also called for stability and unity and issued a statement of support for Hadi, whose headquarters was bombed by unidentified aircraft over the weekend.

"France is concerned by the deterioration of the situation in Yemen. We are attentively following evolutions on the ground," a French Foreign Ministry statement said.

France has withdrawn its ambassador from the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, which has been taken over by the Houthi rebels who have chased the elected government out of the city.

"We encourage the negotiations that are led by the Special Envoy from the United Nations, Jamal Benomar, in order to restart the transition process in line with the road map set out by the international community," the French statement indicated.
