Saudi Arabia, Britain reject Houthis' coup d'etat

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Saudi Arabia and Britain Monday rejected the Houthis' coup d'etat in Yemen and reiterated support to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Saudi Arabia is doing all it can to protect the legitimate leadership in Yemen, Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal told a joint news conference with his British counterpart Philip Hammond.

He commended the role of Britain and international partners in supporting the GCC initiative and its implementation mechanism in Yemen.

Prince Saud said invitations were sent to all political forces in Yemen to the GCC-brokered meeting in Riyadh with the objective of preserving unity and sovereignty of Yemen.

Prince Saud rejected the Iranian interference in Yemen, as well as Tehran's "hostile intervention in the internal affairs" of the Arab countries.

On Syria, the Saudi top diplomat said President Bashar Al-Assad would not have any future role in Syria, and the solution of the conflict should be based on the communique of Geneva I conference, which called for forming an interim government with executive powers.

Prince Saud welcomed a visit by Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi to Saudi Arabia to discuss the war against terrorism.

He meanwhile said his talks with Hammond dealth with the Iranian nuclear file, the Palestinian cause, war against terrorism, the Syrian conflict and the Middle East peace process.

Hammond said Britain was keen on finding a peaceful solution for the conflict in Yemen, which should be addressed through the GCC initiative and its implementation mechanism.

Hammond, who supported President Hadi, said all options to deal with the Houthis' coup d'etat were on the table but they did not include a military choice.
