Export To Australia Declines By 48% INDONESIA TRADE BALANCE

JAKARTA March 23 2015— The Central Statistics Agency recorded that the non-oil and gas export from Indonesia to Australia decreased 48.14% to US$382.2 million in the period of January-February 2015 from previously US$737.0 million in January-February 2014.

The government denies the significant decrease was due to the lack of harmony of diplomatic relation between two countries within the last few months.

National Export development Director of Ministry of Trade Nus Nuzulia Ishak said within the last two months the bilateral trade between Indonesia and Australia was in deficit. However according to her it was not due to the tension between both countries.

“Probably in six months we can conclude the cause. It's too early to say the death penalty as a cause of less harmonize relation between Indonesia and Australia” Nus told Indonesia Business Daily at the Ministry of Trade Friday (3/20/2015).

Based on the data from Central Statistics Agency (BPS) the export decline percentage is higher than the other potential main export destination countries. Indonesian import from the country also decreased even though just about 2.36%. In January-February 2014 the import from Australia reached US$753.9 million and decreased to US$736.1 million in January-February 2014-2015.

Indonesian export product which was in decline in February 2015 compared to February 2014 were steel product which declined by 47.5% from US$35.21 million Wooden product and Goods made by wood from US$17.44% declined by 25.07% to US$13.07 also machines and mechanic equipments from US$22.94 million declined by 36.44% to US$14.54 million.
