Sacred Heart School (www.sacredheartkingston.com) a private Catholic co-educational school for students in preschool through grade 12 recently formed its own Robotics Club allowing high school students the opportunity to come together to think about design and develop creative solutions to a wide range of challenges in the Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics fields.

The club facilitated by Science and Math teacher Andrew Glynn has purchased LEGO® Mindstorms® a series of kits that contain software and hardware to create customizable programmable robots.

“Presently our club members are familiarizing themselves with the kits with the goal of several in-club competitions by the end of the school year” said Glynn adding that in the future the Sacred Heart Robotics Club hopes to compete against other high schools.

The Robotics Club while still “in its infancy” is yet another element of a campus wide initiative to support the STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Mathematics) program.

“Inspiring students to be science and technology leaders is at the heart of this program” said Sacred Heart School President Pamela Desmarais.  “We’re proud to be recognized for integrating educational technology throughout our curriculum as a tool to enhance and enrich the teaching and learning process.”
