Senate president, Kazakh counterpart discuss parliamentary ties

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Senate President Abdul Raouf Rawabdeh on Monday discussed with the president of Kazakhstan's Senate, Kasim Zhomart Tokaev, ways of forging closer parliamentary ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, Rawabdeh also reviewed with Tokaev the current situation in the region, noting the burden being shouldered by Jordan as a result of hosting an increasing number of Syrian refugees in addition to its efforts to combat extremism and spread the values of moderation and tolerance to promote peace and stability in the Middle East and the world.

Rawabdeh said that Jordan remained an oasis of security and stability despite the situation in the region as it had preempted the so-called Arab Spring by carrying out political and legislative reforms that included amending a third of the Constitution, establishing the Constitutional Court and the Independent Elections Commission and creating many laws and legislation.

The Kazakh official said his country was keen to promote relations with Jordan in various fields. He also praised efforts exerted by Jordan under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II to bring peace and stability to the region.

The Kazakh senate president arrived in Amman yesterday on an official visit, during which he will deliver a message to His Majesty the King from Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev.
