Kuwait''s efforts support for int''l coalition to fight IS ''distinctive''

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY March 20: The British Ambassador to Kuwait Matthew Lodge has described Kuwait''s efforts and support for the international coalition to fight DAESH as ''distinctive'' reports Al-Qabas daily. He pointed out Kuwait does not work to be the focus of attention and interest but the efforts of this country stem from its commitment to combat the extremist ideas and terrorist organizations. In terms of British-Kuwaiti cooperation to dry financial sources of terrorism he said ''The bilateral co-operation on this file is very strong and close''. He pointed out the Kuwaiti government has made significant progress in controlling financial flows to terrorism and ''we appreciate these efforts''. In his exclusive interview with the Al-Qabas daily the UK envoy discussed the measures taken by Britain concerning Mohammed Emwazi and his family. When asked if Britain has shared with the Kuwaiti authorities results of interrogations and investigation about Emwazi''s father he said: ''It''s important to look at the case of Mohammed Emwazi from both angles.

The first part is Mohammed Emwazi throughout chose to be part of the DAESH organization in Syria and went on to become one of the most notorious figures and this is the subject matter that concerns the public and all those who try to fight the crimes and the brutality of this organization and the second side is what has been published by the media including the picture of the alleged ''murderer'' as a student and as a child. He went on to say it is our responsibility since this family carries British passports. He indicated the British authorities talked with the family member who said they are not worried and had been in contact with the embassy and ''we have provided help in the area consultations but it is fair to say: ''We do not have any reason to believe that Emwazi family in Kuwait was familiar with what has happened''. He added regarding the evidence that the DAESH ''slaughterer'' Mohammed Emwazi was Jihadi John he said ''I''m not in a position that authorizes me to comment in the matter of determining his identity but there is no doubt he is the person who we saw in the wild videos posted by DAESH and we have more details to prove his identity.

Regarding his last briefing in which he said the war on terrorism may drag on for years the UK envoy said ''we have not come up with those expectations from nowhere but through exchange of views with most participants in the international coalition that has been formed to fight DAESH. ''It appears there is a comprehensive reason to being not able to eliminate terrorism in a few months. We are fighting the ''thought'' of DAESH extremism and brutality and every supporter of this thought''. He added there are also other reasons for us toward those expectations notably the expansion of DAESH and the invasion of Iraq the continuing chaos and conflict in Syria with the entry of the crisis in its fifth year. Unfortunately this is not something new to Britain as a result of the diversity of our society and the growing number of immigrants to the UK and this is what prompted us to issue laws to combat the violence against other religions. Meanwhile Lodge has announced that the British Embassy in Kuwait received last year nearly 100000 applications for a visa to the UK. He added most visa applications (95 percent) for Kuwaitis were accepted. He noted the British Prime Minister David Cameron said his government is committed to providing electronic visa for Kuwaitis but there are technical challenges.
