''MI5'' unit due for Emwazi interview

(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY March 5: Director of Europe Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Walid Al-Khubaizi said the ministry has no role in the case of the alleged terrorist Mohammed Emwazi who is Iraqi although born in Kuwait reports Al-Kuwaitiah daily. He said ''Emwazi is a British citizen who has lived and was raised in the UK and he acquired his culture there.'' The Ambassador was responding to a query on the sidelines of celebrations of Bulgaria''s National Day at the Bulgarian Embassy in Kuwait. In another development the London Times newspaper has revealed MI5 special unit will soon arrive in Kuwait to interview Emwazi''s father Jassem.

The newspaper quoting sources from Kuwait said the special unit of British intelligence will arrive in Kuwait to follow up the investigation and that Kuwait will provide all information it has to its British counterpart.

The newspaper also mentioned lack of cooperation from Emwazi''s parents to reveal the identity of their son would render them liable to prosecution based on British terrorism act. The newspaper added Kuwait may benefit from the case and request the family''s deportation from the country.

The newspaper said the Kuwaiti-British authorities might use the anti-terrorism law as a weapon to deport to Britain Emwazi''s family members a majority of whom hold the British citizenship where they will be subjected to wide scale interrogation but that cannot happen at the moment being due to lack of such protocol between Kuwait and Britain. However it has been reported the two countries can sign a temporary agreement on this issue.
