Kuwait says keen on women's rights


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait has underscored its great keenness on women care and its eagerness to grant them their rights that would ensure safe and decent living for them and their families.

This came in an intervention by Chancellor of Women's Affairs Committee of the Council of Ministers and member of the participating delegation in the meetings of the 59th session of the Commission on the Status of Women of the United Nations Badria al-Khalidi at the conclusion of meetings last night.

Al-Khalidi said that the Kuwaiti Constitution has guaranteed women all the rights that preserve and protect the family structure of motherhood, aging, childhood, in addition to granting them the right to work freely besides the social, health care and education rights for the sake of achieving full social justice.

She added that the Kuwaiti constitution has made the social justice a basis of the national economy and to achieve the goal of prosperity for citizens and lift the burden of disasters on their shoulders.

She said that Kuwaiti women have become a key element in the development process and an active partner in the development plans and decision-making, as women constitute more than 50 percent of Kuwait's population and about 46 percent of the forces operating in the country.
