GCC condemns Houthis' actions in Yemen


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for Arab States has condemned the actions taken by Houthi rebels to dissolve the parliament and the takeover of government institutions in Yemen, expressing its rejection of the various acts of violence, for achieving political goals, intimidating the Yemeni people, suppressing their freedoms, and violating their rights.

The Saudi Press Agency, SPA, quoted Qatar's Ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, Faisal Abdullah Al Hanzab, reiterating in a joint statement delivered on Tuesday before the Human Rights Council during the discussion of the situation in the Republic of Yemen, the GCC Arab States' commitment to the security and stability of Yemen, and its support for the legitimacy of President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, and the need to complete the political process in accordance with the GCC initiative, its executive mechanisms and outputs of the national dialogue as well as the agreement of peace and national partnership and relevant Security Council resolutions.

The statement hailed the approval of the GCC leaders of the request of Yemeni President to hold a conference on Yemen under the umbrella of the GCC General Secretariat in Riyadh, in accordance with the objectives set out in his message to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, represented in maintaining the security and stability of Yemen and upholding the legitimacy with the rejection of the Houthi coup.
