UAE- Weeks after acquittal, youth arrested for another murder

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Chilling details have emerged in Monday' armed clash between two groups that left a 25-year-old Emirati dead and two others critically injured. The prime suspect in the case, Kh.D., was acquitted by a Dubai court just over two months ago for want of evidence in another murder reported last year.

Funeral instead of marriage for deceased

Majeed's father said his son was to get married in May this year. "On the day he was murdered, he had come back after meeting his fiancee," said the distraught father.

The last rites of the deceased were performed and he was buried at Al Quoz cemetery. Majeed colleagues and friends remember him as a "loving and peaceful person".

According to one of his colleagues, Majeed joined the Dubai Customs three years ago. "He had no trouble with any of his colleagues or friends. He was a very warm person," said the colleague. The police said Kh.D. tricked the deceased, identified as Adnan Abdul Majeed, a Dubai Customs employee, and two of his friends into meeting him on the pretext of settling a dispute they had since childhood.

Police said Kh.D. dragged the deceased and his friends to his house in Al Warqa 4 area, where the former and 12 of his friends poured acid on them and attacked them with swords and knives. Majeed was stabbed in the chest, shoulders and fingers and he had acid burns on his head. Majeed died while he was being taken to a hospital in a private car.

His friends, Ahmed Ali and Fahd Musbah, had acid burns in their eyes, head, chest and back, said the police. According to relatives, Fahd has gone blind as a result of the attack.

Police were notified about the armed clash around 2am.

According to the brother of one of the injured, Majeed had called him on the day of the incident to accompany him to Kh.D.'s house. "Our house is 1km away from where the attack took place. My brother came in screaming and we found burns all over his body. We rushed him to the hospital and he is okay now," said the brother.

Kh.D. was arrested on March 17 last year along with four others in connection with the murder of a compatriot outside a hotel bar in Al Qusais area. The deceased, 31, was found stabbed in his chest, legs and other parts of his body following an argument he had with Kh.D. in the bar.

Kh.D. was acquitted by a Dubai court just over two months ago.

Residents living in fear

Fatima Hassan, a teacher living in Al Warqa, said quarrels and clashes have become common in the area. "I was driving in Al Warqa once when I saw that two youngsters were stabbed and dumped near a dumpster. I approached the group that attacked them and asked them what happened. They asked me to not involve myself. I immediately informed the police."

Injured Fahd's brother called on the authorities to curb drug use among the youth "as it leads to awful crimes". "I urge the police to prevent youths from gathering late at night. The residents of Warqa are suffering due to this," he said.
