World Oral Health Day observed across the Emirates

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) As part of efforts to improve oral health in the region, UAE dentists are joining professionals across the globe this Saturday for World Oral Health Day in an ongoing initiative to create awareness of the importance of maintaining optimal oral health. A recent dental survey conducted by Dubai Health Authority to examine the oral hygiene status of more than 5,500 school children in Dubai revealed that 80% of children between 12 and 15 years have unhealthy gums, while almost two thirds of 15 to 17-year-olds have dental cavities.

As instances of dental cavities in the UAE is one of the highest in the region, and over 90% of the world's population will suffer some form of dental disease in their lifetime, World Oral Health Day, WOHD, provides a unique opportunity to elevate the subject of oral care. Many diseases can easily be treated or prevented with a good oral care routine.

Dr. Mohammad Mansoor, Head of the Dubai Health Authority Pediatric Dentistry Department, said, "Today, we join the rest of the world in celebrating World Oral Health Day. Our aim in the Emirates is to encourage people to make each day an oral health day. Through several simple steps €for example, brushing twice daily, flossing, regular dental visits, and chewing sugar-free gum for just 20 minutes after eating and drinking € you can help keep your teeth and gums healthy throughout the year, therefore improving your overall wellness."

Organised globally by the World Dental Federation, FDI, WOHD is celebrated every March in more than 70 countries around the world to promote awareness of oral health issues.
