Sisters on trial for 'assaulting businesswoman in her flat'

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Two Austrian sisters were charged in absentia on Monday on the charges of trespassing into a property and assaulting a businesswoman in a flat she had rented from their father.

According to prosecution records, the two sisters, who are at large, also verbally abused the 47-year-old Saudi businesswoman and threatened to throw her off the balcony and stole cheques and other important documents and contracts from her place.

They were charged in the Court of First Instance with robbing $21,000 in cash and two gold necklaces worth Dh16,000.

They allegedly stole four cheques worth $4 million and an official cession of a house and other contracts and threatened to throw the businesswoman off the balcony if she did not go out of the flat and let them take whatever they wanted.

The complainant said in the prosecution investigation that around 11.30am on January 26 last year, the two defendants entered her flat in the Marina.

"I was then sitting in the office. They were carrying two big travel bags. One of them pulled me by my shoulder and hit me hard".

The other accused picked up documents off the printer and put them in her bag.

She claimed that the two sisters beat her all over her body as she was trying to stop them from taking important documents.

"I dialled the Dubai Police operations room number. I was calling for help and the officer heard the noise of the two accused assaulting me," the businesswoman told the prosecutor.

They cut the call and threatened to throw her off the balcony.

"I felt terribly scared and tried to hold on to the furniture. At that moment, the watchman came in and tried to get them off me".

But the two sisters forced the watchman out of the flat and continued collecting the documents and cheques.

The police arrived and lifted evidence including fingerprints.

"I went to the hospital for examination to prove I was assaulted. The defendants' lawyer talked to me at the police station and offered reconciliation, but I turned him down because they assaulted me and had stolen documents and cheques," the complainant said.

The Indian watchman, 45, confirmed in his statement in the investigation of having seen one of the accused punching the woman tenant.

"I entered the flat after hearing her screaming. There were two big bags and some papers scattered on the floor".
