Sharjah square closed for 3 months for repair works

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Shaikh Rashid bin Saqr Al Qasimi square, known as Sahaba mosque intersection, will remain closed for three months for repair works, according to the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority. The Sahaba mosque will, however, remain open for prayers during this time.

The arterial square is to be blocked for a distance of 250m from all directions for repair and development works.

Yusuf Al Suwaihi, Chairman of the Sharjah RTA, said the intersection will be opened in June. "The development of the square, to be done in collaboration with the Sharjah Police, will reduce traffic congestion in this popular area."

Three forward lanes will be built in addition to two others for U-turns, he elaborated. "A number of pedetsrain bridges will also to be built."

The asphalt layer will be relaid. While some amendments are to be introduced on the road, some U-turns are to be totally blocked, he explained. Some roundabouts and intersections across the Shaab Club intersection will also be repaired to ease traffic flow.
