India poised as world's fastest growing economy: IMF


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Internation Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Christine Lagarde on Monday said India was on its path to becoming the world's fastest growing economy, as she bagan her two-day visit to the country.

"Wonderful to be back in vibrant India - poised to become world's fastest growing large economy," Lagarde tweeted, as the multilateral funding institution predicted a 7.25 per cent growth for the country this fiscal, rising to around 7.5 per cent the next year.

As per IMF officials here, Lagarde's itinerary during her two-day India visit, which takes her to Mumbai on Tuesday, includes meetings Prime Minister Narendra Modi and key leaders such as Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan.

In addition, she is scheduled to deliver a speech at Lady Sri Ram College in the capital besides attend a public event hosted by the central bank in Mumbai on Tuesday. She then travels to China on a five-day visit.
