Thousands of French medical workers protest proposed law

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) Thousands of doctors, dentists and nurses took to the streets of Paris on Sunday to demonstrate against a proposed healthcare law to be discussed by the French legislature this week, dpa reported.
Police told broadcaster BFM-TV that 19,000 people turned out for the march, while organizers put that number at 40,000.
Healthcare workers say the proposed bill will increase bureaucracy.
One of the central proposals - to shift the burden of applying for reimbursement for a consultation from patient to doctor - has drawn particular ire among physicians.
The legislation also calls for additional food-labelling, tightening tobacco rules and promoting preventive practices within the healthcare system.
