Japan approves record budget of USD793b

(MENAFN) Japan's powerful lower house of parliament approved a record USD793 billion budget, including fresh economy-boosting stimulus and more defense spending, Arab News reported.

The government plans to spend USD793.35 billion for the financial year to March 2016 under the budget. Passage is expected within several weeks despite possible opposition moves to stop the bill.

Among the spending is USD49.16 billion for public works, while other funds will pay for programs such as child-care and medical assistance which are aimed at luring more women into the workforce.

Japan's defense spending will also set a record at USD4.1 billion as it looks to strengthen surveillance of territorial waters amid ongoing diplomatic battles with Beijing over the ownership of islands.
