Egypt eyes USD9.5b tourism revenue in 2015

(MENAFN) Egypt aims at receiving from 11 to 11.5 million tourists in 2015, generating revenue of about USD9.5 billion, according to the new tourism minister, Reuters reported.

Tourism accounts for 11.3 percent of the economy and 19.3 percent of Egypt's hard currency reserves. Egypt is hoping to turn the sector around, the minister said.

The country is making a gradual recovery, receiving 9.9 million tourists in 2014, up from 9.5 million in 2013.

"We have a strategic goal of reaching 20 million tourists in 2020, with revenues of USD20 billion," the minister said in a statement.
