To maximise delegate engagement improved technology is a must.
United Kingdom – 13 Mar 2015 – Conferences are great for learning new things and discussing topics of common interests with other delegates. Interaction can often be difficult though and this is where technology comes in. New technology is being introduced to encourage delegate interaction.
Imagination have recently done a study into ways of making networking technology better. Katie Streten head of insight at Imagination said “We are finding ways of making networking technology better through wearable technology. Most people aren’t good at networking but they want to be able to do it successfully and once you introduce an intelligent solution networking can be improved.” She went on to say “We are using name badges and tags in similar formats to how they’re currently being used but with added gratification. The badge knows more things about the delegates and is able to match one group with another group… it can take data and project the information in attractive ways whilst telling us who spent the most time on the show floor and who spent the most time at the bar.”
Another product that Imagination has produced is the Experience Platform which they tested at this year’s Photokina the world’s leading imagery fair. They produced the product for Canon and manufactured 214 touch points at specific Canon products around the venue. Delegates could then interact with the Experience Platform by using a ‘live pass’. The delegates tap their pass onto the screen which enables them to see the specific configuration of the product. This is a fun and quirky tool that gives delegates more insight into products but because it is new also gives delegates enjoyment. Unsurprisingly when Canon looked at who used the Experience Platform they found that 100% of the delegates had.
These two examples demonstrate how technology can be used to encourage delegate interaction and more are being introduced all of the time.
Stephanie Ellrott from RIBA Venues the events and conference arm of Royal Institute of British Architects said: “The events industry is evolving and companies want to interact more with delegates and utilise technology to get the most out of their event.” She went on to say “RIBA Venues have state of the art conference and meeting rooms available for hire in Central London.”
